Singles Day is by far the biggest shopping event in the world. Similar to Black Friday, it is a shopping event with great bargains, discounts and promotions. Every year, Singles Day takes place on 11 November, and the promotions now start a few days before. So the event doesn't just last 24 hours. As with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, many online shops and shops also use Singles Day for marketing purposes and publish special Singles Day bargains and discounts that are worth seeing.
The big advantage of Singles Day is that it takes place two to three weeks before Black Friday. In China, Singles Day is even the most famous shopping day of the year and millions of people use 11 November to take advantage of the many Singles Day offers. In the meantime, this day is becoming increasingly popular in Europe. Singles Day is not only for singles, of course, but also for couples. Relationship status is irrelevant. The name only comes from the origin of this day.
Singles Day originally comes from China. It is also the country where many singles live. In 1993, the day was first used by Chinese students at Nanjing University to celebrate being single. The day was chosen deliberately. Like the four ones in the date, they were all single and yet formed a community at least on 11 November. To this day, the one is an important symbol for Chinese singles. In the course of its 27-year tradition, Singles Day has lost much of its original meaning. While Singles Day used to be celebrated only by young men as a bachelor's day, it is now also popular among single women and couples. With a total of six ones in the date (11.11.11), 2011 was the "Singles Day of the Century".
Mainly due to the one-child policy, there are many more men than women in China, which made finding a partner difficult. The 11.11. was chosen because the ones perfectly reflect being alone. Unlike Valentine's Day, this day does not celebrate the love of a partner, but the love of oneself and single life. Back then, the focus was on bar crawls, karaoke and dancing. It was not until 16 years later that the day was discovered by the online shopping giant Alibaba.com and used for commercial purposes. The first Singles Day with special promotions and discounts took place on 11.11.2009. Since then, there have been countless Singles Day discounts and vouchers every year on 11 November, with Alibaba in particular setting new sales records time and again.
Since 2016, Singles Day has also reached the West. The biggest shopping event in the world is still relatively little known in Germany, but here, too, retailers offer more and more Singles Day offers and bargains every year. Every year, more and more companies jump on the Singles Day bandwagon. So we can certainly look forward to many new Singles Day offers this year.
